After my epic photowalk on Sunday, my friend Addy and I went to see the Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden. As a general warning to anyone who plans to go (it's open until January 2nd, 2012), the buses were very backed up due to heavy traffic and there was a huge line at the door. Luckily, Addy and I already had tickets so we went right in! If you plan to go, buying tickets in advance online will be a really good idea.
The trees in the garden were lighted up in Christmas colours, and they had light-up flowers lining the pathways, which were jammed full of people and kids and strollers. We walked into the garden right when a choir was singing, and the atmosphere was very festive.
The above picture is of the Make-a-Wish Candle Shrine that was surrounded by little children and a small audience. It reminds me of a song by Avalon: Light a candle, light the dark, light the world, light a heart or two, light a candle for me... I'll light a candle for you.
They also had mini donuts (thanks for sharing with me, Addy)!!! So delicious. I heard afterward that there were waffles as well on the other side of the garden but unfortunately we ran out of time.
While the night was chilly, we had a great time (only wish the bus had come earlier so we could enjoy more of the park!) and it was a nice Christmas-y thing to do. It'd be a great date idea too, as "mistletoe moments" were scattered around the garden. If only it would snow for Christmas...
